Current Code Modifications being Reviewed for 2020
Every three years The Florida Building Commission (FBC) accepts proposed modifications to the Florida Building Code.
Any Florida resident can submit a Building Code Modification with supporting documents. After a Proposed Modification is submitted, FBC staff assigns it to an issues-specific Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for public comment and hearing. There are two 45-day Public Comment Periods where comments and alternative language for proposed modifications may be submitted, each Public Comment Period is followed by TAC hearings where the TAC members vote on each proposed modification giving each mod an "Affirmative Recommendation as Submitted", "Affirmative Recommendation as Modified", or "No Affirmative Recommendation." After the TAC and public comment process is completed, then the reaming proposed modifications the Florida Building Commission Considers TAC recommendations and accepts or rejects the proposed modifications. The proposed modifications accepted by the FBC are then published and made available for review and the date for the new code to take effect is set, the modified code must be available for review for at least six months before it is to take effect.
The FBC is currently reviewing proposed modifications for the 2020 Florida Building Code, the next Code Modification cycle will take place in 2022 for the 2023 Florida Building Code.
